“Sustainable Citizenship” Topic of First Friday Club Speaker on Friday, September 4th
Brother David Andrews, CSC, J.D., will address the First Friday Club of Greater Akron on Friday, September 2nd at the University of Akron Martin Center, 105 Fir Hill, Akron. The topic of his hour-long talk will be: “Sustainable Citizenship”.
Brother Andrews is a special advisor to the President of the United Nations General Assembly and focuses on Food, Agriculture, Water and Sustainable Development. He is also advisor to the Holy See and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on rural life issues and coordinates Peace and Justice issues for the Congregation of Holy Cross of which he has been a member for 46 years.
Brother Andrews has served on a number of notable boards including Community Food Security Coalition, Heifer International, Sustainable Agriculture Coalition and Organization for Competitive Markets. He was the former Executive Director of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference and attended as accredited delegate to the World Trade Organization ministerial meetings in Seattle, Cancun and Hong Kong.
The First Friday Club of Greater Akron is a Catholic organization whose purpose is to bring the best Catholic thinkers, teachers and leaders into Akron on a monthly basis to promote a better understanding of the significant issues impacting church, family, work and community life. The luncheon series is in its tenth year and consistently draws an average of 200 to 250 people from Summit County and surrounding counties. It is also intended to be a community service and all interested in the topics are invited to attend.
